- Updated assurance program guarantees control of annual bluegrass weevils
Syngenta announced today the launch of WeevilTrakSM Plus, an evolution of its industry‑leading WeevilTrak program, now enhanced with Atexzo® insecticide/miticide. Atexzo features a new class of chemistry for turf that provides powerful control of annual bluegrass weevil (ABW) adults and all larval stages. This program advancement delivers greater application flexibility, enhanced efficacy, fewer applications, stronger resistance management and broader-spectrum control than IGR‑based strategies.
WeevilTrak Plus continues those enhancements, combining real‑time scouting insights from independent and university entomologists with the latest innovations in ABW control—including Atexzo and Ference® insecticides—to help superintendents stay ahead of one of the most destructive pests in annual bluegrass and creeping bentgrass turf. With the spread of ABW, Syngenta has also added two new site options for superintendents to follow within WeevilTrak Plus, which are Glen Flora Country Club in Waukegan, Illinois and Ravinia Green Country Club in Riverwoods, Illinois. Additionally, Deerfield Golf & Country Club in Brockport, New York is replacing Monroe Golf Club in Pittsford, New York.
“We are dedicated to the leadership Syngenta has provided for over a decade to superintendents battling ABW,” said Stephanie Schwenke, turf market manager for Syngenta. “The collaborative work among university and industry entomologists, superintendents and our technical experts has shaped WeevilTrak into the most trusted ABW monitoring platform in the industry. Now with Atexzo, WeevilTrak Plus represents the next generation of this commitment.”
Elevated performance through Atexzo
Atexzo brings an entirely new mode of action (IRAC Group 30) to ABW management, controlling insects through contact and ingestion and providing additional activity on billbugs and turf caterpillars as well as mole crickets in the South. Its introduction has enabled WeevilTrak Plus to shift from the previous seven‑stage protocol to a more streamlined program, simplifying decision‑making and reducing the number of required applications while improving performance.
“The novel active ingredient and mode of action of Atexzo allow us to significantly enhance the WeevilTrak Plus program,” said Lisa Beirn, Ph.D., technical services manager for turf in the Northeast at Syngenta. “With the new four‑phase framework, superintendents can now achieve broader‑spectrum control with fewer applications—without sacrificing timing precision or season‑long performance.”
The updated WeevilTrak Plus guarantee now reflects the treatment protocol featuring Atexzo, which enhances control of ABW and billbugs in qualifying states. Additionally by tankmixing Atexzo with Acelepryn® insecticide, superintendents can also achieve season-long control of grubs and turf caterpillars. Syngenta will continue to honor the former WeevilTrak guarantee throughout 2026 for customers in states where Atexzo registration is still pending. Syngenta will be sending an additional alert this year to help support the overwintered adults and first summer generation.
Additionally, the in‑season blog updates and ongoing email and text alerts that superintendents have come to rely on from WeevilTrak will continue as part of the new program to guide scouting and inform application timing as ABW populations progress. Superintendents can explore the updated program, download resources and sign up for alerts at GreenCastOnline.com/WeevilTrakPlus.
