Curtis Tyrrell, Superintendent at Desert Highlands, starts his day by showing his team their
Spiio dashboard. With eight sensors and plans to install 22 more throughout their course, the team relies on Spiio's soil moisture, soil temperature and salinity data to make important agronomic decisions.
"So we brought on the Spiio sensors recently. We have eight sensors out on the golf course, and some of them are in our greens. We have some in select tee areas and in some fairways. It's just been great —
every morning, we start our day with a managers' meeting, and we can bring up our Spiio dashboard. So we can see our
moisture content where every sensor is, we can see our
salinity and we see our
soil temperature, which is really important to us this time of year when we're in the middle of our overseeding. And it really
sets the tone before we even left the office in the morning. We know about where our moisture sits, and we can correlate that with our overnight irrigation. We're already ahead of the game, so it's been a great addition to the team. We're going to be adding 20 more, so we're going to have 30 out there because I think it's just fantastic technology. And I look forward to using it robustly throughout the course over the next few years."
