Turn soil data into action for healthier turf with GreenCast Connect

The summer season has not only arrived – it knocked the door down and cranked up the thermostat to the max! The higher temperatures will make you consider certain choices to properly manage course conditions through cultural practices, assessing growth potential and being diligent with proper product applications for stress management (visit for tips on both). Soil moisture management is also vital across greens and fairways as it can quickly become the limiting factor during stressful periods. How you react to soil moisture can highly influence how well you are able to maintain quality playing surfaces.

Successful water management can be accomplished through pairing GreenCast® Connect with Spiio soil sensors for in-ground soil and satellite weather data specific to your property. This data will provide accurate information for daily decision making for you to run or withhold irrigation applications or manage specific areas based on the data.

GreenCast Connect Dashboard

GreenCast Connect Dashboard

The dashboard allows you to customize the outlook that’s most appropriate for your property’s needs. You can add widgets to your dashboard that are powered by the same proprietary weather database embedded in GreenCast Online, which is based on a 3-mi.2 resolution of satellite data. The widgets on the dashboard are interactive, providing a seven-day historical and forecasted outlook to give you a balance between making quick observations and diving deeper. Some examples of accessible widgets are:

  • Severe Weather Monitor – Allows you to set thresholds for conditions related to severe heat, rainfall, humidity or UV Index.

  • Precipitation – Displays the 24-hour accumulated rainfall for your area. Expanding the widget shows a seven-day historical data chart and forecast overview of precipitation for you to correspond with soil moisture sensor data to validate portions of the property that actually received rainfall or irrigation.

  • Net Water Gain/Loss – Uses an equation between total daily precipitation and modeled evapotranspiration to provide an estimated soil-water balancing outlook for your property. This helps you schedule specific head runtimes based on the estimated loss of soil water or withhold irrigation if a net gain occurs. You can use in-ground Spiio soil sensors to confirm net water gains or losses through changes of soil moisture data.

  • Sensor Data – Displays data from Spiio soil sensors. When GreenCast Connect is paired with Spiio soil sensors, you can see and validate on-site rainfall and irrigation applications through the sensor data that is automatically collected and transmitted. You can expand data views based on 24-hour, three-day, seven-day, 14-day or one-month timeframes to correlate increases or gradual dry-downs of soil moisture data with irrigation requirements.
